Alexa Fernandez

Administrative Assistant

Alexa is a professional musician residing in Miami, Fl. Named after Billy Joel’s ‘Downeaster Alexa’ and great-grandaughter to Gerardo Macias of Cuba’s famous group - Los Guaracheros De Oriente, Music has always been apart of Alexa’s life. She grew up listening to Billy Joel,  Led Zeppelin,  and The Beatles  - which inspired her to become a musician.

Alexa graduated from Miami-Dade College with a Music Performance degree in Jazz drum set in 2018. During her time at Miami-Dade College, Alexa participated in multiple Jazz and percussion  ensembles in and outside of the college. In 2017 Alexa studied Arts and Humanities Abroad in Europe. This experience helped shape her perspective on life, arts and her career goals. Alexa currently works as a freelance drummer and at The SFCPA pursuing her passion for music, family, and education.

The SFCPA is a Knight Arts Challenge winning, non-profit organization dedicated to creating new and enhancing existing opportunities to study, perform, and enjoy music through percussion. Along with educational programs from classical to world percussion, we help make music accessible to our community through school presentations, workshops, and performances. We also meet a challenge of studying percussion: access to literature, instruments, and rehearsal space in our 2300 sq.ft. facility!
