SFCPA Celebrates an Unforgettable 2026 Spring Showcase
On May 17, 2026 South Florida Center for Percussive Arts proudly celebrated another incredible season of music, growth, and community at our 2026 Spring Showcase. With more than 500 family members, friends, and supporters in attendance, the event featured performances by over 70 SFCPA students, showcasing the hard work, dedication, and passion they have developed throughout the year.
This year's showcase was especially meaningful because of the extraordinary artists who shared their time, talent, and culture with our students.
We were honored to welcome Magela Herrera, an internationally acclaimed Cuban flutist, vocalist, composer, and educator whose career has taken her from Havana to stages and festivals around the world. Now based in Miami, Magela spent two rehearsals working closely with our students, sharing her artistry and encouraging them to explore music with confidence, creativity, and expression. Joining her was Dr. Brian Potts, percussionist, educator, and founder of Miamibloco, whose work has helped build one of South Florida's premier Brazilian percussion communities while strengthening the musical connection between Miami and Rio de Janeiro. Brian's passion for Brazilian music and music education continues to inspire musicians of all ages throughout our community. We were also privileged to host Bóka Reis, visiting from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Bóka is one of Brazil's most respected percussionists, having performed with internationally renowned artists including Maria Bethânia, Anitta, Snarky Puppy, and many others. During his time with SFCPA, he dedicated countless hours to teaching our students the rhythms of Bahia while sharing the history, traditions, and spirit of Brazilian percussion firsthand.
These collaborations transformed the showcase into much more than a concert—they created an unforgettable opportunity for cultural exchange, learning, and artistic growth. Our students had the rare privilege of learning directly from world-class musicians, building relationships that will inspire them for years to come. At SFCPA, we believe music is about more than performance; it's about building connections, broadening perspectives, and learning from the people who keep these traditions alive.
To everyone who attended, volunteered, performed, and supported this special event, thank you for helping make it such a memorable celebration. We are proud of every student who took the stage and deeply grateful to our guest artists for investing in the next generation of musicians.
